In an absent dream by seanan mcguire6/7/2023 I actually think the world building behind the ‘Troll Market’ was really well done and was impressed by it’s creativity. She’s a child who always felt like a bit of a misfit and ends up going on an adventure to a world that feels like home to her. The protagonist, Lundy, is a good enough protagonist. In an Absent Dream was, however, one of the better ones. The idea behind this fantasy series is intriguing, and there’s no denying that McGuire is a skilled wordsmith – but I have been inconsistently convinced by these books. It’s the 4th novella in the Wayward Children series and I wasn’t entirely convinced by it’s predecessors:Īs you can tell by these ratings, this series has been a bit hit and miss for me (and yet I keep on reading). I have to admit, I was a bit on the fence about starting this book. Alas, everything costs at the goblin market, and when her time there is drawing to a close, she makes the kind of bargain that never plays out well. When she finds a doorway to a world founded on logic and reason, riddles and lies, she thinks she’s found her paradise. Synopsis: This fourth entry and prequel tells the story of Lundy, a very serious young girl who would rather study and dream than become a respectable housewife and live up to the expectations of the world around her.
